Actors Rehearsing

plays

A finished play is the culmination of many stages: from first draft to several edited versions, following critique from peers and professional actors. The key to dialogue is concision which means every word needs to earn its place.

novels

A novel is a huge beast. Often, one only knows what the story really is after the first draft, which means a finished novel can feel like having written several. The key is to silence the inner critic and move forward, because one can only edit if one has written!

poetry

I love the power of verse, and have sometimes been inspired to write poetry, though I find that when the music of a poem comes, it must be recorded quickly.

Poetry for me is usually evoked by strong emotions, which can surface without warning. Then, I reach for my pen and the space to be still and let it come.

Speeches

I joined Toastmasters in 2015 and it has led me on a great adventure. From taking up club roles to competing at international level there's something new to be learned from every Toastmasters meeting.
